Business groups have urged the government to step in and offer support to companies and consumers through the energy crisis. They have highlighted the work done by essential businesses in the UK and that they could be forced to collapse if there is no help provided.
The head of EDF Energy has warned businesses of a “dramatic and catastrophic winter for customers”. Philippe Commaret the managing director of EDF proposed help for homeowners to insulate their houses and a VAT cut for small businesses as energy prices are set to rise further.
The boss of Scottish Power on Tuesday reported that he has asked the government to back a £100bn loan scheme to allow energy companies to freeze bills for two years. Scottish Powers’ proposal has won the backing of EDF.
How can we help your business through the energy crisis?
Many business owners are unaware that by using an energy broker they could unknowingly be paying higher rates on their bills as it contained a hidden commission paid to the broker.
Energy brokers are intermediaries who should act in the best interests of their client and their business. Unfortunately, this has not always been the case and it has been identified that brokers often act with their own financial motives in mind, steering their clients to deals where commissions for them are highest, commissions which get added to client bills so unknowingly paid.
As an example, where a broker advises that 14p per kWh is a great price, what you don’t see is that the energy supplier is only charging 12p kWh, and the 2p kWh is being paid directly to the broker by the energy company. So, to put that into context over a one-year contract on an annual consumption of 290,000 units, the broker will have claimed £5,800 in commission. If you multiply that by the term of the contract, say three or five years the sums really do accumulate.
In the UK claims for re-payment of this hidden commission range from £2,000-£150,000 and this is for each energy contract where typically businesses have several.
